35 years of changing lives the Buckingham Way: One person, one family, one business at a time

It was 1987. President Reagan challenged Gorbachev to "tear down this wall." Disposable contact lenses became available. The Internet was inching along, and the first laptop computer, complete with a 3.5 inch floppy disk drive, was released by Hewlett-Packard.
 
Working from a small, upstairs loft with a slanted ceiling and a staff of one, Jay A. Buckingham watched the local and national news – and hunkered down.

​Mr. Buckingham had just left a large corporation because he wanted to offer truly independent financial advice to his clients. He knew that if he did things his way, versus the big company way, that he had the opportunity to follow his own sense of integrity – and to change more lives.

“I had been working for a large corporation and I decided to leave and become independent,” Mr. Buckingham said. “The ‘aha moment’ was the desire to move forward in a way that would allow me to satisfy my clients. I've always said that you don't work for an individual or a company, you work for the clients. That's true to this day.

FAST FORWARD TO TODAY
  
Over 35 years later, Buckingham Advisors now has a staff of more than 40 employees. Assets under management ending 2021 topped $785 million. Buckingham’s dedicated team of strategists, investors, accountants, and advisors proudly work with individuals, families, and business owners to help them achieve financial success.

As in 1987, this now-large team is headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, but have added office locations in Columbus, Lebanon, and Wilmington. The firm offers comprehensive financial planning, investment management, business services, and tax strategies for clients who are located in Ohio and points beyond.

Buckingham’s team of financial professionals work together with one common goal: to create successful outcomes for their clients. The staff includes a large number of credentialed specialists including, Certified Financial Planner™ professionals (CFP®), Certified Public Accountants (CPA®), Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA®), and investment, insurance and tax professionals.

GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY 

In 2019, “Buckingham Big Hearts” was established by employees who wanted to provide group opportunities for philanthropic involvement within the communities they live and work.

Quarterly events – which are open to employees, clients, and friends of Buckingham Advisors – can involve donations, volunteer work, and other activities to support local businesses, individuals, and families.

The fourth quarter 2022 initiative focused on sponsorship and support for Buckingham employees who participated in the Tour de Gem: The Wright Brothers 2022 Cycling Classic.
 
The third quarter focus was annual sponsorship of Operation Cherrybend’s September Retreat Week and Heroes Concert. This yearly event brings together combat-wounded veterans who would otherwise never have met and forms a network of support and friendships – right here in Ohio.
